Why did you choose the name Michelle Bergamo? The symbolism of this name shows our antagonisms, which are visible thoughout our project. We intentionally wanted to emphasise the female component of our work. The female as the eternal symbol for the creation of the New. Each single one of our documentations is a natural creation, that is (re-)produced daily. But also the whole project shows the power and fugaciousness of our life cycle. How did the idea for the project evolve? We are the first professional generation of artists, who have the chance to focus on the "new media". This is a special forum, a stage, that allows us to communicate our approaches to art to a wide audience and invite discussions. Nevertheless it is ambivalent. Therefore we wanted our first project in this form to explore the formal aspects of the medium. During our work we experienced ever new aspects of the medium. Insofar we felt like being sucked into a maelstrom. Why did you choose to get together as an anonymous group of artists using a synonym?Essential is the idea. The development of the conceptual aspects provide space for friction and creativity, which emphasise our individual strengths. At some point we recognised, however, that establishment of our work requires structure. The realisation and actual act of creation is there: we agreed on this and that and we wanted to do that and that - so pick your tasks and run with them. One volontarily enters a very tight-knit structure. But we don't want to have ourselves pressed into any kind of structure. Therefore we decided to choos an anonymous approach, which guarantees our independence in the long-term. Did you experience artistic confrontations during the project? The work within and for the project influences the individual work of each of us. So the experience I make within the group have influence on my thoughts and my body and they somehow emerge one way or another in my own work. On the other side we also see that the individual work of each of us will surely affect the project in its aesthetic, physic and textual components. Is there a classical component to this virtual work?Today art is discussed and over-explored in such a way that one has to ask the question, if it still makes sense to ask the for the traditional separation of physical and virtual art in this extended context. The inner sense of the object in art and the classification of "non-art" is not a question of the medium. Art has to become part of the information and communication studies without its inner mystical sense being diluted into sciene. Here we see approaches for a utilisation, which could grow into the dimensions of ground-breaking changes in society. Of course we have to create structures first that allow for creative professionalism. Why is professionalism so important for you?Foremost it is the aiming for quality, which means being professional in the sense of delivering good work. It is , however, not without problems to define 'quality' in the context of art. For us it is important that art can be experienced - both in a sensual and intellectual way. The identification of the abstract with the concrete world. |
